Shipboard Control System Supported by Energy Storage Sizing to Meet the MIL-STD-1399 Limits for Pulsed Power Loads*

This paper addresses the new pulsed power load requirements for shipboard systems introduced in 2018 revision of military standard 1399 section 300, part 1. With number loads increasing onboard modern ships, AC distribution bus is susceptible to voltage and frequency abnormalities due limited inertia synchronous generators powering ship. In this strict limits imposed by are met with a system-level solution novel sizing method energy storage system. A targeted control system ensures that delivered has smooth transients, within set standard, thus reducing stress on generators. (ESS) algorithm proposed identify minimum supercapacitors given parameters. The simulated experimentally validated laboratory testbed built SiC converters managed FPGA boards.
